Installing a fence on your property can add beauty and value to your home, along with providing security and privacy as well. Finding reputable fence installers can be challenging when there are so many to choose from.

Before selecting a company to do your work, you should get a good idea of the type of fencing that you want. Fencing comes in many different styles and types. Depending on the purpose for your fence, your options are quite versatile. Is your fence mostly for privacy in your backyard, needed to secure your favorite pet, for security, or simply for decorative purposes?

Types of fencing:

  • Wood ~ usually made of redwood or cedar, and sometimes treated pine to preserve it from insects, decay, and weather. Wood fencing comes in a variety of different styles, from posts and slats, to privacy and picket fences. Not as durable as some fencing, these must be maintained from time to time.
  • Fiberglass ~ has the strength of iron, is lighter, and more easily handled. It costs more than wood or vinyl, but is maintenance free and will last a lifetime. It can be made to look like wrought iron, or wood, and comes in any variety of color.
  • Vinyl ~ is very affordable, lightweight, maintenance free, and easy to install. Color choices are numerous, but not as durable as wood, iron, or fiberglass.
  • Wrought Iron ~ is extremely durable and is usually either decorative or used for security. It is expensive, difficult to install, sometimes requires welding, and heavy. It should be installed by professional fence installers.
  • Chain-Link ~ is probably the most widespread fencing being used today. It is very durable, weather-proof, insect resistant, and maintenance free. Though not as appealing to the eye as the other choices of fencing, it is quite economical and functional for a variety of purposes.

Any of the fencing mentioned above comes in a wide selection of styles to choose from. They can be very plain, decorative, or highly ornate. Variety is the spice of life, and with today's market you have the privilege to choose. Several of the fencing choices above can be a do-it-yourself project if you are handy. To guarantee that your fencing project will be done correctly and look good, most homeowners would be wise to have it done by professional fence installers.
