A Fence As Art

You might not believe it, but a fence can be art, just ask the Cambridge Historical Commission. When Harvard came to them requesting permission to add decorative panels to a section of their historical wrought-iron fence , the Commission declined.

The University wanted to add panels for student artwork to the fence in an effort to liven up the space, but the Commission doesn't believe that's necessary. One of the commission members noted that “the fence itself is a work of art...”

Partly because of its construction and partly because of its history, the fence will remain untouched. Both the Commission and Cambridge locals showed their support in leaving the fence as-is.

Art in Your Yard

When you choose the right fence for your yard, it can be like art, as well. Imagine a beautiful backyard garden surrounded by a classic white picket fence , or a stone walkway leading into an ornamental fence  gate.

Even privacy fences come with more options and materials from which you can choose so that you can get a bit of style even if your goal is to protect your yard.

The key is finding the one that suits your home and yard. Don't forget to choose a fence that suits your lifestyle and family, as well. If you have pets who are prone to running away, you might opt for a taller fence. If your kids are rough-and-tumble, a fence with sharp points is likely to result in more than a few bumps and bruises.

When you pick the fence that's right for your family, lifestyle, and taste, you'll have functional art in your own backyard!
