You might not believe it, but a fence can be art, just ask the Cambridge Historical Commission. When Harvard came to them requesting permission to add decorative panels to a section of their historical wrought-iron fence, the Commission declined.
The University wanted to add panels for student artwork to the fence in an effort to liven up the space, but the Commission doesn't believe that's necessary. One of the commission members noted that “the fence itself is a work of art...”
Partly because of its construction and partly because of its history, the fence will remain untouched. Both the Commission and Cambridge locals showed their support in leaving the fence as-is.
