What does your fence look like? If you're like a lot of homeowners, chances are it just looks like; well, a fence! However, some creative homeowners have started using their fences as part of decorating. In fact, there are a lot of interesting ideas for livening up your yard using your fence.
If you've never decorated your fence, would you? How far would you go to bring some extra life into your yard?
Fence Ideas
Blogger Stacy Risenmay for Homes.com shared some of her favorite ideas for using a privacy fence to decorate. Check out these three easy, high-impact projects:
Painting is a straightforward, easy task (if a little time consuming), but it really does have a huge impact on your fence. There's also so much freedom with it, you can do a lot just by changing the colors and which areas you paint.
For instance:
- As in the picture above, a multi-colored fence is unavoidably attention-grabbing.
- Different shades of the same color: for instance, dark blue, blue, and light blue in stripes would be a little more subtle but still stand out.
- One impactful color: this could be something subtle but bright, like yellow or light orange, or this could be something completely eye-catching, like bright green or pink.
Planters are a more subtle, beautiful way to add beauty to your fence. You can use regular pots attached to the fence in grids like wall hangings, or you can use box planters spread out along the wall. Make a bigger splash with bright, bold flowers, or go more practical with green, leafy ferns.
Tall plants let you change the appearance of the fence without actually changing the fence. When you grow tall plants or thick bushes in front of the fence, you give the illusion that there is a natural fence. What a fitting design to have in your backyard: a fence made out of your favorite green bushes or tall flowers!
If you are looking for a more decorative style instead of the standard privacy fence you may be interested in a French Gothic Picket Fence. The stylish pickets will set your fence apart from your neighbors. The standard 2 ½” spacing between the pickets can be customized to your preference. A picket fence will set a boundary for children and fur babies while maintaining an open feel for your property.
