Eco Friendly Fencing Choices

Fencing has come a long way from the white picket fence of the past. Not only has your choice in material grown to plastics and metals, but also environmentally friendly options. Your local fence installer will be able to suit all of your eco conscious needs with these different options.

  • Composite - Usually a mix of recycled wood and plastic, this material is already reclaimed and highly weather resistant, although often more expensive.
  • Bamboo – This material is fast growing and highly renewable, but can discolor over time.
  • Wrought Iron – This material is extremely heavy duty and elegant, but will need chemical treatment to prevent rust.
  • Aluminum – This material is light weight and highly recyclable. It will not rust, but may not be strong enough for certain tasks.
  • Chain Link – This material is affordable, easy to install, and can be recycled. What it may lack in looks it makes up for in utility.
  • Wood - There are many varieties of this material to choose from, such as redwood, cedar, or treated pine. Treated or stained lumber often has toxic chemicals, so avoid those options and choose items with the FSC (Forest Steward Council) logo. Avoid chemical paint and stains applied after installation as well. Additionally, wood may be prone to rot in wetter areas
  • Salvaged Material – These materials that have been scavenged from the local area and salvaged from previous builds are highly eco-friendly. Often an inexpensive way to add charm to your property, this method can result in increased effort for your fence installer

Whether you are looking for a sleek, modern privacy fence or a rustic garden border; check with your local fence installer to choose the best option for you. Eco friendly choices are available if you look for materials that are repurposed, recyclable, or untreated by chemical paints and stains.
