From the barbecue grill to the fence, your yard matters. If you love your backyard, you will spend more time there, opening up a place of relaxation, fun with your children, or entertaining friends. If your yard isn't what you want it to be yet, a few simple tips can help get you started--it might be some work, but you can have the yard of your dreams.
Step 1: Make a plan. Design your yard. Use this time to think of all of the things you'd love to include, think of the shape and the size of your yard, and which elements will fit. Be as specific and detailed as possible. Once you have a pretty good idea, write it down or sketch it to put it into perspective. If you hire a professional to help, they will likely be able to draft a clearer plan for you, but if you aren't doing anything extremely complicated, you can certainly do it yourself!
Step 2: Consider your budget. If you have a tight budget, you might need to swap out some of the elements you want for more affordable options. On the other hand, if you really want to keep all of your elements, you can break the transformation project into stages, doing one part of the yard at a time.
Step 3: Be critical of your plan. As things begin to come together, look at the yard critically; look at your plan skeptically. You might see something important that you missed, or something you thought you had to have that you really don't!
The important part of backyard design is being happy with it, so if at any point something isn't looking right, stop and do something different!
If you are looking for a more decorative style instead of the standard privacy fence you may be interested in a French Gothic Picket Fence. The stylish pickets will set your fence apart from your neighbors. The standard 2 ½” spacing between the pickets can be customized to your preference. A picket fence will set a boundary for children and fur babies while maintaining an open feel for your property.
